Choosing a new computer or getting one ready to use? We can help with suitable equipment, setup and moving your important files, with home visits across Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch and nearby areas.
Help choosing a suitable computer
We’ll discuss what you use your computer for, your budget and any equipment you want to keep using. We can help choose a suitable desktop or laptop and arrange supply where needed. Equipment, specifications and costs are agreed before ordering.
Getting your new computer ready
We can help with the initial setup, software updates, email and everyday settings. We can also connect compatible printers and other equipment to your home network, then check the tasks you normally use your computer for.
Moving files, photos and documents
Tell us what you need to keep before work begins. We’ll discuss where your files are stored and how suitable information can be transferred. If the old computer or its storage has failed, we’ll explain any recovery options first; recovery cannot be guaranteed.
What about my programs and accounts?
Some programs need reinstalling rather than simply copying across. We’ll discuss compatibility, installation details and any licences or subscriptions you already have. You may also need access to your email and other accounts. Please don’t send passwords or verification codes in an enquiry.
Before you retire your old computer
We’ll help you check that the important files you’ve asked us to move are available on the new computer and discuss a suitable backup. Keep the old machine until you’re satisfied everything needed has been accounted for. We can explain options for removing personal information before it is passed on or recycled.
What will it cost?
£60 covers the first hour and is our minimum charge. Additional time costs £15 per 15 minutes. There is no separate call-out charge.
Equipment, paid software and subscriptions are separate costs, which we’ll discuss before you decide. The amount of information to move and the condition of your old computer can affect the time needed.
What should I tell you?
Let us know whether you’ve already bought a computer or would like help choosing one. Tell us what you use it for, what equipment you want connected and which files or programs matter most. Mention whether the old computer still starts and works.
